Filibuster is a situation in which a politician deliberately delays or prevents a proposal from becoming law by continuing to speak until the end of a debate. But according to the Spanish dictionary (DRAE) and the German Duden a filibustero was a pirate (DRAE says: Pirata, que por el siglo XVII formó parte de los grupos que infestaron el mar de las Antillas. Duden says: westindischer Seeräuber in der zweiten Hälfte des 17. Jahrhunderts) My, how times have changed!
But how could one express this verbose technicallity in Spanish or German, as those countries do not seem to grant this blocking possibility in their parlamentary procedures?
